We took a great trip up the Oregon Coast This year.  On our trip we
got to stay in one of our Worldmark Condos and we also saw some
things we hadn't seen before.  This page is dedicated to those
interested in the Coast Guard, but I will create a Oregon page for
those interested though outside the Guard.
On the drive down from Depoe Bay to North Bend, I
saw first had just a fraction of the role that Mother
Nature plays in complicating even routine missions for
the Coast Guardsman of District 13.
At Air Station North Bend, the ready aircraft sits
patiently for the next brave souls to lift it to its next
mission.
Not a bad view from standing between the 52 and 47.
Now I never saw one of these, frankly I forgot they existed.
This is a 52.  It is one of few left in the Guard. As I walked
through it I quickly realized that a lot of work has gone into
maintaining the vessel and that the members of Station
Yaquina deserve great respect for their success in
maintaining it.
When the mission is complete, the real tough work has
yet to begin. Keep in mind that someone still has too
clean and get the boat ready for its next mission. This
picture was taken the same day the station rescued a few
fisherman on a disabled fishing boat.
A good look at the inside of the MLB.  Keep in mind that it's clean and well kept.

And they didn't even know anyone from PacArea was coming.

This is Depoe Bay.  We were able to watch Air Station North Bend
conduct a rescue mission just off the coast shown above.  For once it
was nice sitting around watching other Coasties work, especially pilots!

For Controllers keep in mind that Air Station North Bend fills the void
between them and Astoria by keeping a ready aircraft in Newport.
